Abstract: The stem-letters ق ص ر (qāf ṣād rā) have many derives and kinds of verb like qaṣara, aqṣara, qaṣṣara, taqāṣara, iqtaṣara etc. And each kind of verb has its sepecial meaning as well as preposition/s applied to it. For example, qaṣara means to confine sth to sth, aqṣara means to be confined to sth and taqāṣara means to be utterly unable to reach sth. Moreover, some of these are transitive and some others are intransitive while some are the both.

Thus, qaṣara which is transitive and intransitive the both, its transitive has four prepositions: ilá, ‘alá, fī and lām while its intransitive has five prepositions: bā, ‘alá, ‘an, fī and min. Similarly, aqṣara which is intransitive has three prepositions applied to it: ‘alá, ‘an and min. This article will discuss five kinds of this verb- qaṣara, aqṣara, qaṣṣara, taqāṣara, iqtaṣara with its meanings and prepositions applied to it in the light of classical Arabic poetry and the Holy Qur’ān.
